It’s so lovely to meet you!
I’m Emily. I’m a Holistic Nutritionist and autoimmune warrior (among other things!).
I believe that appropriate nutrition can have a significant impact on health, especially for those struggling with chronic illness. It’s one layer out of many in supporting our health and wellness.
I also believe that the pursuit of health and wellness is one of the most slippery, disorienting journeys a person can take, and we as health practitioners, don’t give this fact enough room at the table.
After a decade of being on this journey, and guiding others on their own journeys, I’ve been thinking A LOT about how to continue to pursue this soul-work when I feel quite overwhelmed by the reigning definition of wellness (aka perfectionism), the utter de-evolution of social media comment sections, the complete disregard of nuance, and overall the sheer noise - so. much. noise. telling us we’re doing it wrong and therefore we are horrible at being human.
Yikes.
“Rewilding” wellness
I want to use this space to expand on that reigning idea of what health and wellness looks like. What if being well has nothing to do with being perfect?
I want to lean into “rewilding” wellness.
I am leaning into rewilding myself; connecting to the roots of my soul, nourishing myself from the ground up, and building a regenerative, heart-led self and community that equally nurtures the ecosystem we pull from.
I’m exhausted seeing most nutrition and wellness conversations devolve into polarizing debates about what is wrong and who is right. Instead of wellness being endless lists of opposing morals, what if it could be an uplifting community, a heart-to-heart conversation, a safe space to take what you need and leave what you don’t because we are all unique.
The medicine I have to offer the world is in part about teaching you how to use food to support health and healing (and why), but more importantly it’s about holding the space for you on your journey to being and feeling fully nourished and well - whatever that looks like for you.
What you will find here
To start, I’m transitioning my current seasonal subscriber newsletter to Substack. At the same time, I will be fully embracing and evolving my more holistic, regenerative, heart-led, and rewilding viewpoint of wellness.
I arrived here to Substack because I crave community. I want to write for myself and my tribe, not for an algorithm. I won’t be chasing trends - I will simply be here, speaking about what is on my heart, embracing this cycle I’m currently in :)
I’d love for you to join me, if you feel so called, as I re-learn and practice speaking from my heart-space. Hang out as much or as little as you like!
While I don’t yet know exactly what this journal will evolve into, it will feature themes like autoimmunity, grief, nature, music, movement, and joy. I can’t promise a schedule - these heart letters will come as I find the words to describe them.
If this resonates with you, welcome to this New Beginning!
